Poor Henry, here he endures having his hooves filed and shaped. Oxen sometimes wear shoes like horses, but because our oxen walk mainly on sandy farm roads, they are not shod. But like humans, they need their nails trimmed and this is how it is done. Oxen also cannot stand on three legs, so they are tipped onto their sides or strapped into a sling and lifted off their feet. I gave Henry many apples as a treat for being a good ox during this process.
